OUR FIRST PROJECT
A HOME FOR THE LIBRARIAN

Erin Suda has been serving as Branch Manager of Lummi Island’s library for over a year. She moved to the island to continue the traditions of a small library with a big heart, curating space for learning, imagination, and community connection. Every day she supports island residents of all ages — from children discovering new worlds in books to elders finding interest in community activities.

Yet while she holds this role of stability and service for the island, her own housing situation remains uncertain. The rising costs of homes on Lummi Island have made it difficult for Erin to find secure  housing on her librarian’s salary. Without stable housing, she cannot give her all to serving the community with the full presence and peace of mind that she deserves.

Erin deserves her own home,  and this is just the first step in creating a culture where everyone has a secure home in their community.

In her own words:
“Instead of feeling disappointed that I don't have the resources to buy my own house now, I want to forge a path of home security and land stewardship for myself and others in similar straits. We need a community network to support affordable housing that also protects the land of Lummi Island from a profit-oriented real estate market. I am so grateful to live and work on this gorgeous island and want to see it both protected and accessible.”

The Invitation

The Lumminus Trust is launching this first project to help Erin secure stable housing. Holding the land in trust for the common makes it possible for essential community members to live and thrive here.
You can donate today to support an appreciated member of the community and to live into the trust’s mission.
